Magic Seam Folder, aka Magic Marker.
Pros: Best for all purpose of sewing from quilting (mark on right side of material), piecing to needle applique (mark on wrong side of material). What makes it better than all markers is the mark you make on the wrong side of material becomes a clear sharp fold where you want to fold the seams! Better still, you won’t have “marks to wash off or iron off”. To erase the marks/folds, just spray water. No worry of any “marks” come back under any circumstances, because it is totally chemical free! Cons: The markings on high contrast prints are not as easily visible as that on low contrast materials. But against side light, you can always see and make the fold easily when it comes to seams!
Magic Marker is now officially named as Magic Seam Folder after complaints by quilters that their marker doesn’t have ink and they can’t see the mark. The tip of this “marker” is a needle. It doesn’t have ink. Place your fabric wrong side up on top of a soft surface (a little quilt or a folded fat quarter), place a template (any shape and any size) on top of the fabric. score with the Seam Folder around the template firmly without using force. You will get a clear folding mark precisely around the template. Fold your seam on the folds you just created. No ironing needed!
To retract the needle after use: hold down the button on the top while pushing the needle tip against a hard surface, say, your marking board. When the needle tip is retracted completely, release the button. It won’t fall out unless you pump the needle out by pressing the button continuously again.
